About Me Brief Biography
The metro area of Charlotte, NC, is Gail's home territory…both North & South Carolina. Following a lengthy academic sojourn at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, finally completing both a BA in Botany & a Masters in Library Science, she arrived (August 1977) in Kingsport to work the Research Library for Eastman. Since 1998, Gail has managed Eastman's Business Library.

Gail and her husband Milton Nelson are active at 1st Broad Street UMC. They have 2 adult children and 2 grandsons, all living away from Kingsport.

Gail is a member and Past President of the Kiwanis Club of Kingsport. During her children's youth, Gail was active with Rascals Teen Center and DB Choral Boosters and Appalachian Girl Scouts, Troop 250.

Her current volunteer activities involve food (Meals on Wheels driver, Friendship Diner cook), books/reading/literacy (Literacy Council, Friends of the Public Library, First Book – Greater Kingsport, & Kingsport Library Commission) or putting Her faith to work (Terrific Tuesdays, Interfaith Hospitality Network of Greater Kingsport).

Gail's leisure pastimes include reading and collecting books.

I've purchased the Kindle (Fall 2008) & then the Kindle DX(Summer 2009), to check it out. Pretty neat. Great for travelling. Yet, I find myself picking on one of the many paper books from my To Be Read pile when I am ready to start another book. HUM!
When the Que is released (early 2010), I think I'll give it a try, as well. Plastic-Logic seems to know what it is doing.

IPad faces new tablet challengers (Investor's Business Daily)

Investor's Business Daily - Electronic giants Samsung and Toshiba each unveiled new tablet PCs running Google's (NMS:GOOG) Android OS that aim to tap consumer demand ignited by the Apple (NMS:AAPL) iPad. Samsung's Galaxy Tab features a 7-inch touch screen and WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity. Samsung said pricing will be $200-$300, depending on required 3G phone plans. Toshiba's Folio 100 features a larger 10-inch screen, but initially will only have WiFi connectivity. It'll be priced at $510. Apple rose 0.7% to 252.17.

Investor's Business Daily - Google (NMS:GOOG) will continue to provide the search results on AOL's Web site under a new, five-year deal. The deal will put AOL video content on Google's YouTube site for the first time. AOL edged up 0.7% to 23.05.

Privacy in iTunes Ping (PC World)

PC World - Ping is Apple's music-centric social network that is integrated into iTunes 10. From a privacy standpoint, it's pretty straightforward--as opposed to Facebook's multitude of privacy settings--but then again, Ping is also very limited as to what services it offers. In either case, here's a quick run-down of the privacy features present in Ping.
