Home Computer Safety Basics – A Refresher

We pay taxes to fund the local Police who help insure our physical safety and keep the peace. It would be great if there were an online equivalent to the local police, someone that you could count on to catch the bad guys. The distributed nature of the internet would require much more international cooperation than there is today in order to really take a bite out of internet crime. However, there is actually an organization, funded by your tax dollars, that is chartered with improving cyber…See More

Everybody needs an anti-virus and anti-spyware software product installed on each one of their home computers. Some prefer the basic paired down freeware version from the likes of AVG, Clam, etc. Most of us prefer to have the psychological benefit of knowing that someone is actually paid to keep up to date with the many threats in cyberspace. Being in the security business is a non stop night and day job – always staying abreast of the latest threats. With 10 million Americans being victimized…See More

Selecting Anti-spyware for the home

With 50-60 Anti-virus and Anti-spyware products available how is a home computer user supposed to decide which one is the best choice to protect their home computers? Most home users do not have the time or desire to become an expert on AV/AS packages. As a father of three I have assumed many roles, one of them is ‘IT Dad’. While supporting an average of five computers on the wireless home network I have developed a keen sense for when things are going well, …or not. It sounds something like this, “Daaaaaad, something is wrong with my stupid computer”.This is when the troubleshooting and interrogation commence. I ask the usual…See More

Video: Leap Motion makes the leap to Windows

BGR took an in-depth look at Leap Motion’s revolutionary motion-control PC accessory last year, and we loved the accuracy and shocking reliability of Leap’s technology. The controller was only compatible with Mac computers at the time, however. In a recent post on the company’s blog, Leap showed off its upcoming Windows 7 and Windows 8 integration, which it plans to launch on July 22nd. An accompanying video shows how well Leap’s controller works with Windows for swiping, scrolling, zooming in and out, flipping through photos, drawing and more. It’s not quite Minority Report, but we’re getting there. Leap Motion’s full video follows below.
