Encompass Case Study: WWE Network-- 24/7 Stream Origination Channel

With a week to go until the OTT Executive Summit (, we give you one more case study to digest, and it’s a good quick read. One of the most exciting and talked about OTT deployments over the past year has been WWE’s innovative and interactive launch of their subscription-based streaming/VoD platform. 

WWE and Encompass partnered to design and execute a 24/7 stream origination channel – a linear channel specifically for online streaming with the same functionality and reliability as traditional network origination. WWE wanted to deliver its live pay-per-view events, original studio and feature programming and VOD content via the Internet to their fans through a paid subscription model. 

Together, WWE and Encompass focused on meeting three key challenges: 1. flexible Master Control functionality; 2: seamless live integration; and 3. excellent distribution quality and reliability over IP. 

With goals defined, Encompass collaborated with the WWE team to build the most reliable, efficient and simplified 24/7 stream origination solution that met the design requirements. On February 24, 2014, WWE Network was launched. As of March of this year, the WWE Network reached 1,327,000 subscribers representing a 63% increase from year-end 2014.
